Statutory Warranty Policy

Sultan Motors (trading name of Logan Auto & Smash Repairs Pty Ltd, ABN 33 692 670 205) is a licensed motor dealer operating under the Motor Dealers and Chattel Auctioneers Act 2014 (Queensland). All eligible vehicles sold by Sultan Motors are covered by a statutory warranty as required by Queensland law.

What vehicles are covered?

Statutory warranty applies to passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles, and motorcycles that are sold for a price exceeding the threshold set by Queensland legislation. The warranty period is:

  • Vehicles sold for more than $3,000 — 1 month or 1,000 km (whichever occurs first)
  • Vehicles sold for more than $6,000 — 3 months or 5,000 km (whichever occurs first)

What does the warranty cover?

The statutory warranty covers defects in major mechanical components that were present at the time of sale and were not disclosed to the buyer. This includes engine, transmission, differential, steering, brakes, electrical systems, cooling systems and other major components as defined under Queensland law.

What is not covered?

  • Normal wear and tear (tyres, brake pads, filters, belts, bulbs, wiper blades)
  • Damage caused by misuse, negligence, accidents or modifications made after sale
  • Vehicles sold "as-is" where disclosed defects were agreed upon in writing
  • Vehicles with odometers tampered with after sale
  • Damage resulting from failure to maintain the vehicle properly

Extended warranty

Extended warranty options may be available at point of sale. Please ask our sales team for details on extended warranty packages to give you additional peace of mind beyond the statutory period.

How to make a warranty claim

Contact us immediately upon discovering a defect. Do not continue driving the vehicle if it is unsafe to do so. Call us on 07 3090 3151 or email sales@sultanmotors.com.au. We will assess the claim and arrange repair or remedy in accordance with our obligations under Queensland law.

Vehicle Return Policy

Sultan Motors is committed to fair and honest representation of all vehicles in our inventory. We encourage all buyers to inspect vehicles in person, conduct independent mechanical inspections, and seek any clarification before completing a purchase.

Your consumer rights

Under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL), you have rights that cannot be excluded, restricted or modified. These include guarantees that vehicles are of acceptable quality, match their description, and are fit for the purpose for which they are sold. Where a vehicle fails to meet these guarantees, you may be entitled to a repair, replacement or refund depending on the nature of the failure.

Material misrepresentation

If a vehicle has been materially misrepresented in a way that was not disclosed at the time of sale, please contact us within 3 business days of taking delivery. We will review the matter and respond in accordance with our obligations under Queensland and Australian consumer law.

Cooling-off period

Under Queensland law, a 1-business-day cooling-off period applies to motor vehicle purchases made from a licensed dealer where a written contract is signed. The cooling-off period does not apply to vehicles purchased at auction or where the buyer initiated the contract.

Change of mind

Sultan Motors does not accept returns for change of mind. We strongly encourage all buyers to conduct a thorough inspection and test drive before purchasing. We are happy to allow independent mechanical inspections by a qualified mechanic of your choosing prior to sale.

Deposits

Deposits paid to hold a vehicle are non-refundable unless Sultan Motors is unable to fulfil the agreed sale. Where a vehicle fails to meet the statutory warranty requirements within the warranty period, deposit and purchase refund rights are governed by Queensland consumer law.

PPSR — Personal Property Securities Register

Sultan Motors conducts PPSR (Personal Property Securities Register) checks on all vehicles prior to sale to ensure they are free of any registered financial encumbrances, reported stolen, or subject to an insurance write-off.

What is a PPSR check?

The PPSR is a national online register maintained by the Australian Government. A PPSR check reveals whether a vehicle has money owing on it (such as a car loan), has been reported stolen, or has been written off by an insurance company. Purchasing a vehicle without a PPSR check could mean inheriting the previous owner's debt.

Our commitment to you

All vehicles sold by Sultan Motors have had a PPSR check conducted. We will provide you with a copy of the PPSR certificate upon request. If you are purchasing privately or would like to conduct your own check, visit ppsr.gov.au.

Queensland Safety Certificate

All vehicles sold by Sultan Motors are accompanied by a valid Queensland Safety Certificate (roadworthy certificate) as required under Queensland law. This confirms the vehicle meets the minimum safety standards to be driven on Queensland roads at the time of inspection.

Questions about our policies?

Our team is happy to explain any of the above in plain language before you commit to a purchase.
